The Traveller Soft Racks each have a central channel through which a main strap runs. The main straps are attached to the foam units via Velcro; this allows the foam units to flex downwards to match the curve of the roof of your vehicle, and allows the daisy chains (which are part of the main straps) to curve upwards to an extent to match the curve of a boat hull resting on the foam units.
Any item being transported using the Traveller Soft Racks would need to be secured to the daisy chain by means of an additional (secondary) strap on each foam unit.
To use the racks:
Step 1: put the foam units on the roof of the vehicle
Step 2: run the main straps through the doors and buckle them securely under
the roof liner. Place the boat or item to be transported on the foam units.
Step 3: run a secondary strap through the daisy chain as close to the transported object as possible, then up and over the transported object. Cinch this strap tight.
– if the object being transported is a boat, run a line from the bow of the boat to the towing loop under the front bumper of the vehicle to stabilize it.
At Sea to Summit, we have used the Traveller Soft Racks to transport boats,
stand-up paddle boards and skis at highway speeds with no issues whatsoever
by utilizing the above technique.
